This is My Last Post on WordPress

Hello to all my WordPress subscribers!

First off, thanks for being a follower of this WordPress blog! I’ve been writing off and on here for more than a decade, which is, apparently, long enough for me to look back at the archives and wonder, Why did I write THAT? What at the heck was I thinking! But it’s all proof of progress. So I’ll take it.

In the early days of this blog (and my business), I often hid away at the UNC library to write

Writing (blogs and whatever else) has always been a big part of my life. But besides maintaining a semi-regular practice of it, I’ve not made a habit out of challenging myself to grow in any particular genre. I’ve mostly just treated my blogs as a lengthier extension of social media posts. Any time I wanted to say something on Instagram that exceeded the word count, I posted it here instead.

These days my social media posts are fewer than ever. I still toss up an occasional photo and accompanying blurb quickly typed out on my iPhone, but my true writing focus is the essay (and ultimately, fiction, if I am being honest). And I really want to get better at it.

My intuition tells me this directional shift is a big enough to warrant a change in venue. So I started a Substack called With a Good Heart (named for my memoir) and love the community I am building there.

I’m committed to publishing one essay per week (usually on a Thursday), and since February I’ve stayed true to this goal. My essays vary in theme, but all tell reflective and introspective stories about my travels, my family, my time in the military, my business, my failures, and more. The most recent piece I wrote about my oldest and best friend in advance of our coming adventure to the Canadian Arctic.

Time In the Military or Failures? You decide!

There are currently 25 essays ready for your perusal, and I’ve got a real doozy in the works for later this week!

My Substack essays are all FREE. If you can swing it, you can show your support by becoming a paid subscriber for as little as $5/month. Regardless, I’ll be thrilled to have you as a subscriber, whether paid or not.

Please join me on this next chapter of my journey. I’ve got some amazing plans in the mix and I’d sure love to have you along for the ride.

I love you, and am so grateful for your support.

Have a look at With a Good Heart on Substack HERE! Thanks so much!
